Defending champion Spain bounces back after loss

Spain, the defending champion at the basketball world championship, bounced back from its opening-day loss with a 101-84 victory over New Zealand on Sunday.

Ricky Rubio(notes) had 11 assists for Spain (1-1), which lost 72-66 to France. Spain, which opened the game on a 13-3 run, finished 10 of 20 from 3-point range and 21 of 25 at the free throw line.

Marc Gasol(notes) of the Memphis Grizzlies led Spain with 22 points, while Juan Carlos Navarro(notes) had 18 and Rudy Fernandez(notes) of the Portland Trail Blazers added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
